The spectacular eight-foot in diameter Zoetrope featured in the exhibition is a cinema device that creates the illusion of static images in motion – featuring well-known characters from Toy Story and
Toy Story 2. The illusion of static images in motion is created when the figurines of the characters, mounted at precise points on a disk, is rotated according to an eighteen-frame cycle. The viewers, thus, see a rapid succession of images producing the illusion of motion. Pixar uses the zoetrope to ingeniously convey the principle of how animated images are formed.
The Artscape is a four-screen, large-scale multimedia projection, which immerses viewers in richly detailed scenes from the animated features Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles and Cars. The inspiration came from original art produced with traditional art materials such as pastels, charcoal and gouache. This audio-visual installation employs digital technology to present dynamically simulated 3D art, allowing viewers to consider in detail how concept art stimulates the imagination of the entire film production team. The Artscape is a magical installation that brings to life the handcrafted art in the exhibition.
